Sexual violence against foreign women in India is continuously increasing. There has been a noticeable increase in rape incidents involving foreign women in India over the past few years. The lack of strict action against perpetrators has emboldened criminals, as they feel there is no fear of consequences.

The Delhi rape (UK woman) case is expected to be extensively covered by UK media, potentially damaging India’s image as a tourist destination. Such incidents may deter foreign women from visiting India for years to come.

Some recent sexual violence against foreign women in India

A UK-based woman was raped in Delhi, following a similar incident involving an Israeli woman in Karnataka just three days prior. These incidents have brought India into the spotlight in international media, raising concerns about safety.

After incident, woman went to police station and filled a complaint. Two men Kailash and Wasim have been arrested in connection with the Delhi case, which occurred in a hotel room. Police reported that the woman had traveled to India for a vacation, visiting Maharashtra and Goa. While there, she reached out to Kailash, inviting him to join her. Kailash, however, mentioned he couldn’t make the trip and suggested she come to Delhi instead. She arrived in Delhi on Tuesday and checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur. After settling in, she called Kailash, who then came to the hotel with his friend Wasim. Tragically, it was that night that he allegedly raped her.

Two women were tragically gang-raped near Hampi in Karnataka. One of the victims was an Israeli tourist, while the other was an Indian woman who owned a homestay. A police officer mentioned that the Israeli woman was in a profound state of shock and decided to return to her home country.

Why these types of incident increasing nowadays

Cultural and Societal Issues

The spread of inappropriate jokes and memes (18++ type jokes) has contributed to a toxic mentality among some uneducated, criminal-minded individuals. These individuals often have no significant contribution to society and engage in such heinous acts, tarnishing India’s global reputation.

Due to pop culture and Internet

Pop culture, movies, and internet trends have influenced societal behavior, especially among those who have recently gained access to such content. This has led to an increase in crimes against foreign women, as some individuals misinterpret these influences.

Other countries

In countries like China, strict punishments, including the death penalty, are imposed for rape, leading to fewer such incidents involving foreign women. For example, in China, a teacher who raped multiple female students was recently executed, setting an example of strict justice. Such actions provide a sense of justice to victims and their families, which is often lacking in India. India should take these types of steps to stop the sexual violence against foreign women in India or any other women.
India, on the other hand, rarely imposes the death penalty for rape, except in the rarest of rare cases.

Government should take strict action

There is a debate in India about whether the death penalty can effectively reduce rape cases. Cultural transformation and stricter enforcement of laws are needed to address the issue, but this will take time. Immediate measures, such as shock therapy for offenders, are suggested to instill fear and deterrence.
